Much more to come soon.

June has brought wonderful sunshine, long days and cousin Aislinn visiting from Alabama. The family is having a wonderful time going to festivals, fishing, sightseeing and helping Aislinn to have a visit to Alaska that she will never forget. Scot's schedule has not gotten any better yet, still three weeks gone and only one at home but that will probably not last more than another month, then will go to two weeks up and two weeks down. More new pictures are posted this month in the family section and some of Alpine (Scot's work) turned to mud! Carol has had her first poem published on the Internet at Poetry.com, follow the link above, we are all very proud of her.

May has arrived and we are seeing much warmer weather now with afternoons in the high 50s and even 60 occasionally. Scot's schedule is more regular now with 3 weeks up and 1 week down. Scot brought some pictures of the Alpine oilfield where he works back with him this time and you can find them in the Photo Album section. There are some new pictures on the Fiddler page in the Photo Album and a couple of rolls of new pictures addded throughout. We are excited about Carol's niece Aislinn coming to visit next month and look forward to showing her Alaska.

Scot has been home for a week now and will head back on 4/26 for a regular (hopefully) 3 week on and 1 week off schedule. Scot has received a promotion to Communications Superintendent (foreman) for 1-2 weeks of his shift and is working 90-110 hours a week while away. Carol is getting occasional substitute teaching calls to help keep her busy. Sebastian had a wonderful birthday with Carol and the other kids and a party at McDonalds with 9 of his friends. We celebrated Scot's birthday on 4/18 while he was home with presents & cake. We celebrated Carol's birthday on 4/21 with presents & cake and no 'mom' duties for the day. The girls will have a family birthday with presents & cake on 4/25 and then a slumber party with friends on 4/28. All of us are enjoying the warming trend as spring approaches, temperatures in Kenai have been in the 40s and even some in the 50s. Though Scot is still in winter at work with afternoon temperatures reaching 15F and nights dropping to -15F with lots of wind and snow. Scot's new Internet project (Sunny Side Business Directory) is going well with new customers and staff joining daily. We hope you will take a look at the site and email Scot at (SStrickland@SunnySideBiz.com) with what you think about it. We should have more pictures back from the developers for the May update.

Scot is headed off to the Alpine oilfield on the North Slope tomorrow to begin a 3/1 rotation. He turned the Census job down in favor of the oilfield work. Kids are looking forward to birthdays and Spring Break. The web site will only be updated once a month for a while. We should have some more pictures developed by the next update (first week of April).

Things have been pretty hectic lately, with Scot and the boys doing "Fiddler On The Roof" with the community theater group (see pictures) they have been at the theater every evening for the past month. It turned out to be a great show, sold-out 3 out of 7 performances (no community theater show in Kenai has ever sold out even 1 show before). The boys were absolutely wonderful and we should have more pictures up soon. We have also spent the last three weeks battling chicken pox, first with Sebastian and then Gabriel (so much fun!). Scot is going to work for the US Census next week and will be doing census work all throughout the Kenai borough area for a few months. The weather continues to be warmer than normal and we have had almost no snow this month. Scot has joined the Board of Directors of a new Internet company, Sunny Side Business Directory, that is going public today. We look forward to seeing where it will go.

What a week! We are all moved in to the new house (well maybe a couple boxes left to empty). With the exception of the terrible weather it was not a bad move. Got the U-Haul truck stuck in deep snow (on the road) three times, wasn't that fun! We went from another winter storm which dropped 2+ more feet of snow to unseasonable warmth which has things melting and freezing (very slippery). Avalanches have all of the main highways in this part of the state closed but we have not lost power. The largest avalanche was a mile wide and 30 feet deep on the main highway to Anchorage. More snow on the way next week, our total is getting way up there (check out the Total Snowfall Chart). No new pictures up yet, but will try to get some more scanned in soon. We would like to welcome Scot's Mom & Dad to the online world (finally) [Hi Mom!].

We have a rather unexpected move this weekend, so please be patient if we are a bit slow on our e-mail for a couple of days. Not to worry though, we have found a nice three bedroom house on the bluff overlooking Cook Inlet only about a mile from here. We will be all moved by Tuesday 2/1/00. We will be getting a new phone number, effective Monday evening, but all else will remain the same. (New number) We have had about a foot more snow this week but the temperatures have been warmer (teens and twenties). The kids are doing great.

Winter continues, temperatures are a bit warmer now (in the 20s a couple of times) but the snow continues to fall, we have had over 100" so far this year and about 40" of that is still on the ground with drifts and piles that run as high as 6'-7' in lots of places. All goes well with the kids in school. Gabriel is enjoying Cub Scouts and Christine is doing well in Dance Class. Scot, Gabriel and Sebastian are doing 'Fiddler On The Roof' with the community theater (visit the web site).

Well Christmas was a joyous occasion here and now the pictures are starting to come back from the developers, so you can check them out in the picture section on the Christmas pages. It continues to be cold here, we have not hardly been above zero since the first of the year and we are still getting lots of snow.

The world has made it successfully into the year 2000 and we wish all of you a Happy New Year. The new address for this web site is http://thestricklands.tripod.com, the older (and longer) addresses still work but this is easier for people to remember (and type). We got another 15" of snow on Christmas and with rain on the 22nd and 26th things are pretty icy. The standing snow is about three feet deep now (more in places) and we are now getting cold, we have been below -20 F since Thursday, dipping to -26 F on New Years Eve.
We are all doing well and look forward to hearing your input on the site. Also check out some of the links on the 'Interesting Web Services' page, they are free and represent some of the better Web Services (in my opinion).

Well we finally are getting some snow up here, over 30" in the last ten days with 18" of that coming yesterday and last night. (See the weather charts) It has kept Scot busy shoveling everyday (and some times twice a day) to keep the driveway and decks clear. The kids are excited about their growing sledding hill, they keep building it up so they will be able to sled off of the deck soon.
We have finally added some more pictures and we hope you enjoy them. Drop us a note and let us know what you think of the web site. (Suggestions are welcome)
The kids are now out on Christmas break until January 3, 2000 and they sure do like not having to get up early in the morning. They are very excited about Christmas and can hardly keep their hands off of the growing pile under the tree.
Most of our activities are taking a break for the holidays so we can all relax, Christine will have dance rehearsal a couple of times during the break and the girls will have Youth Group meetings.
We are planning a quiet New Year/Decade/Century/Millenium party at home with just the family.

Hello, everybody. It is the middle of December and we are still not getting much winter (for Alaska that is). We have had some cold weather (down to -10°F, but mostly in the teens and twenties) and a little bit of snow (about 26" with only about 18" remaining on the ground). See our weather page for more info. The weatherman keeps threatening snow, but it just doesn't happen. There are so many things happening in our lives that bookmarking (add to favorites) this page will be the best way to keep up to date. There have been some wonderful changes around here in the past year or so.
We are now living in North Kenai, Alaska and you can find our address and phone number here.
First a little background on the family. Scot and Carol met in Philadelphia in April and were married in Kenai on September 28, 1999. Carol's sister Jennifer flew up to Alaska for the wedding. Carol is from New Jersey originally, though her parents are now in Alabama. Carol is a teacher at the middle and high school level and is doing substitute teaching in Kenai and Nikiski. Scot is from California, among many places. Scot is working for ARCO in the Alaskan North Slope oil fields doing communications system work (telephones, computers and satellite systems).
After spending much of the summer in Philadelphia and undergoing the 8th, 9th and 10th surgeries on his hand, culminating with a tendon transplant, Scot has now regained full use of his hand (injured October 1997). A couple of more months of physical therapy remain before he will be able to return to work, but after two years and ten surgeries he will have full range of motion and full strength (and all ten fingers) when the physical therapy is done.
Carol also had a busy year. While working for Vision Quest, she helped close the Uvalde, TX program. She then went to the Vision Quest site at Big Lodge in Franklin, PA for two months and then on to the New Jersey program where she was working when she met Scot. And now, living in Alaska and mother of four!
We moved to a new home in North Kenai this summer. It is a beautiful 5-bedroom house on about an acre. The kids are very happy with all of the room to play both indoors and out. We have a large yard and about one third of the back is woods for the kids to play in. Suzanne and the boys have built a playhouse among the trees already and Carol and the kids are working on plans for a toboggan style snow sledding run from the raised deck out into the yard (if we ever get some snow).
Scot is working the lights and sound for a Christmas musical called `The Best Gift' by a local writer which is being produced by a couple of local churches. In addition, Scot and Carol are working with the local community theater group on a production of `Fiddler on the Roof' which will play in late February.
